Assisting with the preservation & presentation of precious artworks and artifacts

Through our thoughtfully designed, adaptable products, working with our clients to advise and assist in choosing the most appropriate solutions.

Our story

It all began some 30 years ago, on the bank of the river Thames...

Sam Sprague (Absolute co-founder) set up his first workshop in an old London warehouse, a stone's throw from the Whtiechapel Art Gallery.

Sam met Bruce McAllister at the Whitechapel, and when Bruce later set out to revolutionise how the Tate Gallery's art was stored and displayed, he and Sam developed the Absolute solutions that are now world renowned, industry standard equipment for hanging and protecting artworks.

Our Ethos

Today Absolute is based in the rolling hills of the Devon countryside, and although our location has changed, our ethos hasn't.

Underpinned by the design principles of Dieter Rams, our goal with any product solution we design is always that they are uncomplicated, timeless, unobtrusive, high-quality, dependable and sustainably-minded.

In addition, a big part of our ethos involves the relationships we build with our clients. We are here to advise and support you with your projects and needs. For us, finding the best solution for your specific requirements is our top priority, and we will continue to be here when you need us. That dependability doesn't end with our products.

We're here to support the endeavours of curators and designers

As you work to optimally display, protect and explain artworks and exhibits, whilst thoughtfully designing the visitor's crafted journey.

Our Legacy

Supporting the efforts of curators, technicians, designers and architects, the legacy we aim to leave echoes theirs - to allow future generations to experience the awe, wonder, understanding and inspiration that can be uniquely drawn from our shared culture, art and history.

If our product solutions help protect, preserve and present such works, we have fulfilled our purpose and will be leaving a legacy we are proud of.

Our Impact

Whilst pursuing such a purpose, we want our impact not to be at the detriment of our planet.

That's why our products are designed and made in the UK, by carefully selected manufacturing partners, with many items finished in house to reduce transport miles.

Perhaps more importantly, though, all our products are designed with longevity at the forefront, both in terms of style and build; we make timeless, durable solutions that can provide decades of dependable use, therefore reducing waste and use of resource.
